Blizzard is kicking off 2025 with some of the most significant changes Overwatch 2 has seen since its launch. From introducing hero perks and the innovative Stadium mode to the return of loot boxes and new heroes, Overwatch 2 is evolving into a more dynamic and customizable experience. With Season 15 launching on February 18, 2025, players are in for an exciting year filled with fresh gameplay mechanics, cosmetics, and competitive updates.

One of the most transformative additions to Overwatch 2 is the hero perks system, launching with Season 15. This system introduces minor and major perks, allowing players to customize their heroes in new ways.

Perks will be available in Quick Play and Competitive modes, giving players more strategic options and deeper gameplay customization.

Launching with Season 16 in April, Stadium mode is Overwatch 2's most ambitious addition. This best-of-seven round-based mode introduces MOBA-like mechanics where players earn coins between rounds to buy items and customize their abilities.

For example, Reinhardt can transform his charge into a flying attack, while Mercy can become a battle-focused healer with offensive capabilities.

In a surprising move, Blizzard announced the return of loot boxes in Season 15. While these loot boxes won't be available for purchase, players can earn them through the free and premium battle passes, as well as through weekly event rewards.

Legendary Loot Boxes will guarantee at least one legendary item, and Blizzard has promised transparency by showing the odds for each item before players open a box.
